Always be aware....
Phishing, a popular emailing scam, is a term used by computer hackers that “fish” the Internet, hoping to “hook” you into giving them your logins, passwords, card or account number information. At times the scammers will pretend to be legitimate businesses in order to gain your trust.
• Never reply to an email or link asking you for confidential or personal information. Call the business using a phone number not shown on the email and ask them if they contacted you and why;
• Legitimate businesses will not contact you via email or text messaging asking for confidential information such as user name, password, account number, etc. – they have that information on file already, they don’t need to ask you for it;
• If you order a product online or sign up for a service with a company, be alert. Transmitted information should be encrypted. When inputting personal information like address, card number or Social Security number, make certain the website is fully encrypted and the network secure. Look for “https” (“s” stands for secure) at the beginning of the website address (URL address) to confirm its security;
• If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Watch for spelling or grammatical errors on the email. Never wire money based on instructions received in an email – it more than likely is a scam;
• Protect your computer. Keep your anti-virus software up-to-date and run it regularly;
• Spread the word. Make sure your friends and family are familiar with scams and how to protect themselves. Young people are internet savvy, but may not be scam savvy; older people are very trusting;
• Contact various agencies including the FTC for more ideas on internet safety.
SECURITY ENHANCEMENT - "EV SSL CERTIFICATES"
We will use Extended Validation (EV) SSL Certificates for security to help confirm that our NetTeller customers have reached the legitimate Brookville National Bank NetTeller website, not a "spoofed" site created by fraudsters to steal personal and financial information. "EV SSL" means that our NetTeller site passed a rigorous identification process.
ENHANCEMENTS YOU WILL SEE:
Address Bar
The address bar will appear green, indicating to the users that the Web site is highly authenticated and secure.
Padlock Icon
A closed padlock is prominently displayed in the address bar. Users may click the padlock to view details about the certificate that secures the site and the certificate issuer (Jack Henry and Associates, Inc.).
Security Status Bar
The security status bar rotates between the name of the authenticated organization and VeriSign, the trusted 3rd party that performed the Extended Validation authentication.
High Security Browsers
To see the green address bar, users will need to be using one of the following browsers that support EV SSL Certificates. EV SSL will not prevent a user from accessing NetTeller, but the green address bar indicator will not be present:
- IE 7.0
- Firefox 3.0
- Safari 3.2
Online Security
Security is a primary concern with Internet Banking. Brookville National Bank realizes and appreciates the trust and confidence you have placed in us. We have worked diligently with our online banking provider, NetTeller, to assure that your privacy is safeguarded and your internet banking experience is safe and secure.
Log-in Protection
We will assign each customer a private password generated by Brookville National Bank for their initial log-in to the online system. In order for each customer to have an entirely private password, the system will force each customer to change their password after their first log-in. NetTeller Banking passwords are alpha-numeric and must be 8 characters in length. We encourage our customers to select passwords that are not easy to guess or easily recognized identifications.
Password Security System
It is very important that ONLY YOU know your Username and Password. This is the only way your account may be accessed. Three (3) unsuccessful attempts will lock out the User from accessing their account. If a user becomes locked out, they must call Brookville National Bank at (937)833-2111.
Pseudo Names Used
In order to allow account access, a "Pseudo Name" (nickname) is used in place of an account number to maximize the protection of your internet banking experience. If you rename your accounts on NetTeller, we recommend you do not change it to your actual account number.
Automatic Logoff
If you are logged on but do not perform an activity for 10 minutes, you will not be able to proceed until you “re-log” on to the system.
Additional Security Measures
In addition to the above safeguards, we have sophisticated firewalls and an authentication process to ensure that only authorized individuals are allowed to enter our system. We also have 24/7 network monitoring to further augment our security controls.
Daily Monitoring
We are constantly upgrading our system to include the most recent Internet Security Features. Suspect reports are generated daily for monitoring purposes to help ensure that no one is attempting to log in to your account that shouldn't have access.
Email Solicitation
Brookville National Bank does not solicit information (SSN, account numbers, credit card numbers, passwords, etc.) by means of email. If you receive an email requesting confidential information from someone claiming to represent Brookville National Bank, do not respond to the email. Please call (937)833-2111 to report any solicitation of this kind that you receive.
Your Role in Security
While we work to protect your banking privacy, you will also play an important role in protecting your accounts and personal information. Please take the following steps to ensure your account information is protected.
Choose a good password! You should carefully select a password that is hard to guess and never use a word that can be found in the dictionary.
Memorize your password! Even the best one is worthless if it's written on a note and is easily found.
Do not share your NetTeller Username and Password with anyone else. This sign on information is designed to protect the privacy of your banking information, but it will only work if you keep it to yourself. If you think your Username or Password has been compromised, change it immediately and contact us at (937)833-2111 or use the "Contact Us" tab to send a secure message.
Change your NetTeller Username and Password as often as you wish. (We recommend changing your password at least every 90 days.)
Don’t walk away from your computer if you are in the middle of an Online Banking session.
Once you have finished your session, sign off before visiting other Internet sites. To assure the security of your account, be sure to click the LOG OFF button, clear your browser’s cache to erase any stored information and close your browser window.
As always, if you notice any suspicious or unusual activity related to any of your accounts, please contact us at 937-833-2111.
Don't leave your computer unattended during a NetTeller session - click on LOG OFF to end your session.
If anyone else has access to your computer, clear your browser's cache in order to eliminate copies of Web pages that have been stored on your hard drive.
Avoid using Public Internet Access Terminals when conducting your Internet Banking.
When sending any application information online this site automatically switches to a secure mode. This is evident by the "https" that will appear in the URL as opposed to "http". If you are using Internet Explorer, you will see a locked padlock at the bottom of your screen when you are in a secure mode and an unlocked padlock when you are in an unsecure mode.
Important Note: While we continue to do everything possible to ensure the security of our system, Brookville National Bank cannot be responsible for customer errors or negligent use of NetTeller Banking and will not cover losses due to:
- input errors or misuse of Brookville National Bank's NetTeller Banking;
- negligent handling or sharing of Username and Passwords leading to unauthorized access to accounts;
- leaving a personal computer unattended during an online session;
- failure to report known incidents of unauthorized account access within 2 business days.
Email Communications
Please remember, standard email is not necessarily secure against interception, and you should be cautious when sending email with personal information. If your information is very sensitive, or includes personal or confidential information-such as your bank account or Social Security number, please contact us by postal mail or telephone.
Supported Browsers
What types of Internet browsers can I use to access my accounts online?
Use one of the following supported browsers:
PC
Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE): Version 7.0 - 8.0*
Firefox: Version 3 and Higher
Mac
Safari: Version 1.0 and Higher
NOTE: Effective August 25, 2010, Internet Explorer versions older than version 6.0 will no longer be valid for access into Internet Banking. Microsoft no longer supports these versions and security updates are not available. As of the date above, users attempting to access Internet Banking with one of these browsers will be denied access and receive a message indicating browser version updates are necessary. Information on downloading a valid version of Internet Explorer will be provided.
End users that currently use IE6.x are strongly recommended to upgrade to a newer version on Internet Explorer or switch to another NetTeller supported browser to lessen the risk of fraud and other risks of using a non-supported browser to access NetTeller.
*IE 8.0 includes a compatibility view feature that displays websites that were created for older browsers as they were designed to appear. Current testing of IE 8.0 with this feature enabled has provided acceptable results. IE 8.0 is a supported browser when this feature is enabled.
What if I am not using one of the supported browsers?
You may experience issues with Internet Banking or be denied access to the system. If this occurs, please download one of the browsers listed and attempt the action again. Links to download the browsers are below.
Can I use a Beta version of one of the Browsers above?
We do not recommend using a Beta version of any browser. When new versions of browsers are fully tested and deemed compatible with the Internet Banking product, they will be updated on the supported browsers list.
The following types of browsers and tools are not recommended or supported for use with Internet Banking:
- Embedded Browsers contained within Personal or Commercial Financial Management Software (Quicken, Quickbooks, Money, etc.)
- Browser Add-Ins and Toolbars (IE 7 Pro, Google, Yahoo, etc.)
If you are using a non-supported browser, an embedded browser or a browser add-in, you may experience functionality issues with Internet Banking. If this occurs, please download one of the browsers listed above or remove the add-in and attempt the action again.
How do I tell if the site I am on is secure? Once you get to the site, the Web address will begin with https: ("s" for secure). The locked padlock at the bottom of the window will confirm the site's increased security. For more details about the encryption status of the page when it was received, click the lock icon. Important: The lock icon only describes the encryption status of the page while your computer was receiving it.
Notice: This site may be utilized for authorized purposes only. Unauthorized access or use is not permitted and constitutes a crime punishable by law. Activity on this site is monitored for security purposes.
